Geoff Marcy
Geoff Marcy, who graduated in 1972, is a famous astronomer whose research group has discovered more than half of the known planets orbiting stars other than our sun. Some of his work is featured in this month's (December 2004) National Geographic magazine, and there's a photo of him on page 86. He was also featured on a recent NOVA program about extrasolar planets. Geoff was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2002 - one of the greatest honors that that can be bestowed upon a U.S. scientist!
